Requirements for Membership

Certification Requirements

BANA members must be certified by an accredited certification board including:

  1. Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA)
  2. The Licence Commission of the Americas (TLCTA)
  3. Natural Therapies Certification Board (NTCB)
  4. Neurotherapy and Biofeedback Certification Board (NBCB)

Biofeedback professionals certified by the following boards are qualified for membership as an Associate Member. Such professionals need to become certified by an accredited certification board to qualify for membership as a Professional Member:

  1. AADP
  2. ABBP
  3. IMUNE
  4. NHECB
  5. NRNP

Acceptable Biofeedback-Related Technologies

By law, biofeedback is intended for the purpose of relaxation so clients can reduce their stress, better manage their pain, detoxify their body from the pollutants they eat, drink and inhale daily and improve their peak performance and the quality of their lives. Licensed health care professionals may provide biofeedback services for pain management, stress reduction, detoxification, peak performance, quality of life enhancement and any other conditions, diseases, disorders or trauma permitted by their license scope of practice. Certified biofeedback professionals may provide biofeedback services for pain management, stress reduction, detoxification, peak performance and quality of life enhancement. Non-licensed uncertified people may use biofeedback for their own personal use only.

The practice of biofeedback includes any combination of audio entrainment, audio-visual entrainment, bioenergetics, biofeedback, bioresonance, CES, EDR, EEG, electrostimulation, EMG, EOG, GSR, HEG, HR, HRV, kinesthetic entrainment, magnetic pulse stimulation, neurofeedback, neurotherapy, QEEG, quantum biofeedback, respitation, temperature and visual entrainment services in the USA and Canada. If biofeedback is your primary business, and you are properly certified or licensed, please join BANA today.

Optional Technologies Covered Under Professional Membership

If biofeedback is your primary profession, you may also offer acupressure, applied kinesiology, aromatherapy, cold laser therapy, color therapy, cranial sacral therapy, crystal therapy, homeopathy, hypnotism when combined with other therapies, kinesthetic therapy (touch therapy using a passive or active device), light therapy, massage therapy, naturopathy, nutritional coaching, oil drop technique, passive sound therapy (tuning fork, Tibetan bowl and similar therapies not related to the Tomatis Method), reflexology, rock therapy and spiritual healing as additional services you provide through your biofeedback business.

Other Options

If your primary business is acupressure, aromatherapy, cranial sacral therapy, homeopathy, massage therapy, naturopathy, nutritional coaching, reflexology or spiritual healing we recommend The Natural Therapies Association of North America (BANA) to you.

If your primary business is detoxification services, we recommend the services of The International Academy of Certified Detoxification Therapists (IACDT) to you.
